2 months until the 2014 Optima Challenge! This year in Las Vegas at the Motor Speedway

The OPTIMA Invitational will bring together a diverse field of 100 competitors; the largest number of competing vehicles in the event’s seven year history. The participant field is based on the results of the successful national series of OPTIMA Invitational Qualifying events and the corresponding MAVTV network series called OPTIMA’s Search for the Ultimate Street Car by putting them through timed challenges in the
BFGoodrich Hot Lap Challenge,
Ridetech Street Challenge Autocross,
Wilwood Disc Brakes Speed Stop Challenge
and the Lingenfelter Performance and Design Challenge (probably not a timed thing)  all bringing different aspects to each participant’s overall score.

Each ticket costs $30  https://www.eventbrite.com/e/2014-optima-ultimate-street-car-invitational-tickets-12857381775  and includes one 2014 OPTIMA Invitational t-shirt that guests will receive at the event.

Gates open at 8:30 a.m. on November 8, with competition events beginning at 9:30 a.m. The Las Vegas Motor Speedway, located just 15 minutes North East of downtown Las Vegas, is easily accessible for attendees of the SEMA Show just off the I-15, and is the perfect competitive venue for the year's most exciting street car event.

It will be broadcast on the MAVTV Network later in November, but to see even more of the action and excitement now, check out video clips from past events on the OPTIMA Batteries YouTube page http://www.youtube.com/user/optimabatteries , visit the OPTIMA Invitational website http://www.optimabatteries.com/en-us/experience/optima-invitational/ to see driver profiles and news, or visit the OPTIMA Batteries Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/optimabatteries?fref=ts to join the conversation.

For a look at last years races, cars, etc:

this is a public safety announcement... Dave is dead. Be safe out there my friends

The last thing you see should not be a car hood

the video is Dave's mom giving her sons's story, and hope that his death means something by just inpsiring anyone to save a life by driving safer, on a bike, or in a car.

the Stegowagenvolkssaurus by Patricia Renick

images from http://staceythinx.tumblr.com/post/61525542580/triceracopter-and-stegowagenvolkssaurus-by via http://www.mymodernmet.com/profiles/blogs/patricia-renick-triceracopter-stegowagenvolkssaurus?context=featured

Stegowagenvolkssaurus, is a direct comparison between an extinct dinosaur and what Renick predicted was another dying concept, the gasoline-powered car. With 10-foot-long rotor blades, the fiberglass sculpture is a blend of stegosaurus and Volkswagen Beetle. The 12 x 20 foot creature currently stands on display in the library at Northern Kentucky University.

I was reminded of

reel lawn mowers, vintage and pinstriped. That's all I need to post a cool image

I was a kid and used my aunts once... about ok as far as getting the grass cut... but kinda cool in the pure mechanical fashion of not having any engine

Did you know that the horse power lawn mower was first produced in 1842?

I wonder what became of Porfirio Rubirosa's B-25

Images from http://www.pilotos-muertos.com/2010/Rubirosa%20Porfirio.html

back in 2011 I learned of this playboy, and his race cars... I'd forgotten his B-25. It was given to him by Doris Duke, who had affairs with Gen Patton and Errol Flynn http://justacarguy.blogspot.com/2011/03/porfirio-rubirosa-racer-of-ferraris.html

Porfirio had a most extraordinary love life: Joan Crawford, Veronica Lake, Rita Hayworth, Dolores del Rio, Marilyn Monroe, Ava Gardner, Zsa Zsa Gabor, Jayne Mansfield, the former empress Soraya Esfandiary and Kim Novak

good video tribute to Mad Max

it's not even close to the coolest thing you'll see all day, but it's not that bad either

a bit too close to the course
