Is it better to find and fix, or buy and beware, a VW micro bus

If you're lucky enough to find one, like Mark did, you've got a rare find.

Looks in great shape, no major rust. And you could just rebuilt the mechanicals, and be on your way.
Or, tear it down all the way, and cut out the rust, and fix all the problems, and make a show winning ride. Two guys who are both named Mark, went all the way to Pebble Beach and placed 2nd when they were done with this one, named Ol Blue

It took 6 years to tear down, replace, rebuild, and repaint. Or, you can buy a restored one for about $140,000, as that is about what this level of perfect goes for, and that is for a stock aspect of restored. Like you might buy at Barrett Jackson

Mark and Mark took O Blue across country when the restoration was complete, and chronicled their adventure on http://www.66split.com/

that is awesome photography!

It's a damn good read. It's also worth reading if you are thinking about a long road trip in an old classic. Things you don't notice in a daily driver will be popping up, like, fogged up windows in a storm, stones tossed up by semis, leaks, no heater or AC, and sometimes, shit happens and a tire flys off at speed. Way uncool. But a really good read, that might take you 20 or 30 minutes. So, enjoy! http://www.66split.com/
